How Water Levels Impact Renting a Boat
May 14, 2026
Are you planning on heading out to Falls Lake to rent a boat with Motor Boatin’? Or maybe you are planning to rent a boat and tow to Jordan Lake this weekend with Motor Boatin’? But what about the drought levels in the Triangle?
Our team at Motor Boatin’ has been renting boats in the Triangle for a long time and we have been through many droughts. A few key things change when there are drought conditions.
3 things to consider when renting a boat during a drought are:
1. Water Levels and Access: As the water levels drop in the Raleigh lakes, there are certain areas we can’t access. Before dropping into the lake, make sure you have looked up any additional restrictions and know where you can’t go.
2. Speed: It is more important to slow down and monitor the speed of the boat. Channels and particular areas of the lake, definitely for Falls Lake, can become more narrow and difficult to pass. Take it slower than normal to ensure safety in all areas of the water.
3. Boat Ramps: As water lowers, there may be less room to launch the boat from so it is important to ensure you know how to lower the boat in lower waters.
Depsite our drought, it is still a great time to rent a boat. We highly recommend self towing a boat to a lake of your choice if you are worried about water levels at Falls Lake. Start your boat rental now by clicking here.
